Well if this isn’t the darndest Easter I ever did see! – Easter Sunday 2020

Well if this isn’t the darndest Easter I ever did see! – Easter Sunday 2020

He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! Hallelujah!

In the Lenten season I’ve not greeted you with that call and response – Lent is no time for hallelujahs. But here we are, at last: Easter Sunday! So let it rip: He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! Hallelujah!

The historical fact of resurrection – our hope is built on nothing less. God’s plan of salvation has been realized at last, through, ironically, the death of the author of life, Jesus, the Christ. In His resurrection He has vanquished sin and death and the devil Himself, and given us a certain future. Our gospel for this day is at the end of Matthew’s gospel, Chapter 28 – we hear of the stone rolled away, the empty tomb, the Mary’s touching the risen Christ. Read through to the end of the chapter – Jesus gives to His church a life-giving sacrament, the gift of faith through baptism of water and word. Matthew’s gospel ends not in the vain hope of human events, but in the certainty of His promise delivered in miracle, in sacrament, in faith.

May God richly bless your Easter celebration!

Pastor Phill
