A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON PAUL’S FIRST LETTER TO THE CHURCH AT THESSALONICA
GOD IS FAITHFUL
1 Thessalonians 5:24 “The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.”
Yesterday’s daily devotional thought is continued in today’s verse. The One referred to in verse 24 is the One who sanctifies and keeps you in your faith and trust in Jesus. He is the One who is faithful. You can trust He will continue His work of sanctification in you making and keeping you holy and faithful in God’s sight.
This assurance of the Holy Spirit’s faithfulness in sanctifying you is based upon Your heavenly Father’s undeserved love, goodness, and kindness toward you. Romans 8:28 assures you who have been called to faith by the Holy Spirit, that God will work for your good because of the love His Spirit has worked in your heart for Him and that God’s purpose for you will come about.” Ultimately, His purpose for you is your sanctification (yesterday’s devotion), your salvation, your eternal life with Him.
God is faithful, trustworthy, dependable, and reliable. He “ . . . will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3) “ . . . He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted (tested), He (God) will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13) Jesus defeated Satan, the master of temptations, in the wilderness, throughout His earthly ministry, and on Calvary’s cross. Jesus did this for your sake.
You can be sure that “ . . . He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
Prayer: Thank You, Holy Spirit, for the sanctifying work you do in my heart every day. Keep me in the true faith to life everlasting. Amen.
Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord,
With all your graces now outpoured
On each believer’s mind and heart;
Your fervent love to them impart.
Lord, by the brightness of Your light
In holy faith Your Church unite;
From ev’ry land and ev’ry tongue
This to Your praise, O Lord, our God, be sung:
Alleluia, alleluia!
Come, holy Light, guide divine,
Now cause the Word of life to shine.
Teach us to know our God aright
And call Him Father with delight.
From ev’ry error keep us free;
Let none but Christ our master be
That we in living faith abide,
In Him, our Lord, with all our might confide.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Come, holy Fire, comfort true,
Grant us the will Your work to do
And in Your service to abide;
Let trials turn us not aside.
Lord, by Your pow’r prepare each heart,
And to our weakness strength impart
That bravely here we may contend,
Through life and death to You, our Lord, ascend.
Alleluia, alleluia!
