A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON PETER’S SECOND LETTER
GRACE AND PEACE BE YOURS IN ABUNDANCE
2 Peter 1:2 “Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.”
When you read or hear the word abundance, what comes to your mind? I think of abundance meaning having a supply to meet every need with a surplus available if extra is needed. Abundance infers the supply will never run out.
When the word abundance is found in the Bible it refers to God’s blessings, prosperity, and generosity. It represents an overflowing measure of His love. It assures you that all aspects of your life, including spiritual, emotional, and material will be supplied.
Today’s devotional verse speaks of God’s abundance. It says that there will be an abundance of His grace (undeserved love) and peace. Once again, as almost always this will be true for you because of your knowing and believing in Jesus Christ His Son your Lord and Savior.
Being that He provides His love and peace to you through His Son Jesus, you will never lack having these two important gifts. Even though there are times when your inner sinful voice says to you that God has forgotten you, God is not listening to your prayers, God will no longer provide for your every need, this verse becomes HIS strong message to you your inner voice is wrong. God’s supply of love and peace will never run out. He will always be present. Jesus will always keep His promise, “I (will be) with you always, even to the end of this world.” (Matthew 28:20)
The source determines whether what you need will be sufficient. Today’s verse says that God is the source through His Son Jesus of an abundant, never ending, always available supply of His love and peace for you.
Prayer: Thank you Father for Your never-ending love and peace through Jesus Your Son my Savior. Amen.
By grace I’m saved, grace free and boundless;
My soul, believe and doubt it not,
Why stagger at this word of promise?
Has Scripture ever falsehood taught?
No! Then this word must true remain
By grace you too will life obtain.
By grace! None dare lay claim to merit;
Our works and conduct have no worth.
God in His love sent our Redeemer, Christ Jesus, to this sinful earth; His death did for our sins atone, And we are saved by grace alone.
By grace God’s Son, our only Savior,
Came down to earth to bear our sin.
Was it because of your own merit That Jesus died your soul to win? No, it was grace, and grace alone,
That brought Him from His heav’nly throne.
By grace! This ground of faith is certain;
As long as God is true, it stands.
What saints have penned by inspiration,
What in His Word our God commands,
Our faith in what our God has done Depends on grace—
grace through His Son.
By grace to timid hearts that tremble,
In tribulation’s furnace tried, By grace, in spite of fear and trouble, The Father’s heart is open wide.
Where could I help and strength secure
If grace were not my anchor sure?
By grace! On this I’ll rest when dying;
In Jesus’ promise I rejoice;
For though I know my heart’s condition,
I also know my Savior’s voice.
My heart is glad, all grief has flown
Since I am saved by grace alone.
