A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON PAUL’S SECOND LETTER TO THE CORINTHIANS
AMEN
2 Corinthians 1:20 “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
Jesus said of Himself, “ . . . I am the truth . . . “ (John 14:6) In John 8:32 Jesus said He (who is the truth) sets people free from their sins. St. Paul’s words in today’s devotional verse tell you that all the promises God has made, and there are many, are anchored and their fulfillment assured through Jesus.
As a sinner, what you need is the assurance that what God has promised you, namely forgiveness of sins, eternal life and salvation will happen. Today’s Word of God to you through Jesus is AMEN! Jesus is His amen to you that your sins are forgiven. Jesus is God’s amen to you that when you die, believing in Jesus you will receive a crown of everlasting life. Note the words of James 1:12 “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” Jesus, we say in our vernacular, “seals the deal.”
The word used by Jesus when He refers to Himself as “the truth” means what He says and promises is irrefutable, reliable, guaranteed. As was stated in yesterday’s devotion, there is nothing wishy-washy in what Jesus says. What Jesus has said you can “put in the bank.”
In a world where you need a room full of lawyers to parse every word of a contract, examine every document thoroughly, cross-examine all people involved, what God says, God means, and, God does. When Jesus says “He is the way to heaven, His word is truth, and in Him you have eternal life you can take Him at His word. Nothing more is needed.
Amen!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant me faith to believe and trust all you have promised me. Amen.
Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand;
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.
Through the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light.
Take my hand, precious Lord; led me home.
When my way grows drear, Precious Lord, linger near,
When my life is almost gone,
Hear my cry, hear my call; Hold my hand lest I fall.
Take my hand, Precious Lord; lead me home.
When the darkness appears And the night draws near
And the day is almost gone,
At the river I stand; Guide my feet, hold my hand,
Take my hand, precious Lord; led me home.
