A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON THE BOOK OF HEBREWS

BRING YOUR HALLELUJAHS TO GOD

Hebrews 12:22-24 “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”

Just to review what the writer to the Hebrews said previously.  He said that Jesus has opened up for you through His life, death, and resurrection the Holy of Holy’s where you can walk right up to God, your heavenly Father:  “Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we So, friends, we can now—without hesitation—walk right up to God, into “the Holy Place.” (Hebrews 10:19-22) In today’s devotional verses, the Holy Writer says that even though you currently live here on earth, because of the shed blood of Jesus you worship Almighty God with the angels and all the saints of Heaven even now while still on earth.

Perhaps knowing this is why singing the Hallelujah Chorus is always so moving.  As you sing your Hallelujah’s, can’t you hear the Angelic choirs singing them with you.  God hears no pitch issues, no wrong notes, and notices no skipped notes.  Through Jesus Christ, your High Priest you come near to God in heaven and bask in your hope of resurrection and your promised inheritance from Him.  His shed blood removes all barriers and opens a clear, unobstructed path to your heavenly Father for your worship, prayers, and hallelujahs.

It is the blood of Jesus that speaks God’s good and gracious message of your salvation.  His blood speaks the Gospel’s message of His unconditional love for you.  It assures you that in and through Christ Jesus you have received by God’s gift of faith in Him life-giving cleansing and life-perfecting holiness.  Thus, the Holy writers concluding words, “. . . the blood of Jesus speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”

Prayer:  Hallelujah Mighty God!  Hallelujah Jesus Christ, my Savior and Good Shepherd.  Hallelujah, Holy Spirit for bringing me to faith and keeping me in the true faith in Jesus, cleansed of my sins and filled with His holiness.  Amen.

Alleluia! Let praises ring! To God the Father let us bring

Our songs of adoration.  To Him through everlasting days

Be worship, honor, pow’r, and praise.  Whose hand sustains creation.

Singing, ringing; Holy, holy, God is holy, Spread the story

Of our God, the Lord of Glory.

Alleluia1  Let praises ring!  Unto the Lamb of god we sing,

In whom we are elected.  He bought His Church with His own blood,

He cleansed her in that blessed flood, And as His bride selected.

Holy, holy Is our union And communion.  His befriending

Gives us joy and peace unending.

Alleluia! Let praises ring!  Unto the Holy Ghost we sing For our regeneration.

The saving faith in us He wrought And us unto the Bridegroom brought,

Made us His chosen nation.  Glory! Glory! Joy eternal, Bliss supernal;

There is manna And an endless glad hosanna.

Alleluia! Let praises ring! Unto our triune God we sing;

Blest be His name forever!  With angel hosts let us adore

And sing His praises evermore For all His grace and favor!

Singing, ringing: Holy, holy, God is holy; Spread the story Of our God,

The Lord of glory!
