June 27 – Daily Devotional

A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON THE BOOK OF HEBREWS

BY FAITH – PART X

Hebrews 11:27-31 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.  By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days. By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.”

By faith Moses depended upon Yahweh as he led the Children of Israel from Egypt, through the Red Sea to wander the wilderness for forty years.  By this same faith God gave, Joshua led Israel successfully across the Jordon, to capture Jericho and establish themselves in their new God-given homeland.  Between the time the Children of Israel left Egypt and entered their new homeland, God provided bountifully His protection, food to eat, and clothing to wear.  Every day God was faithful to His nation even when they failed to be faithful to Him.

The account of the Exodus is not fiction.  It really happened.  God’s love and providence prevailed.  This same God has brought you into His family by adoption.  He has promised to be with you always through the voice of His Son.  (Matthew 28:20)  He encourages you to cast all of your cares, concerns, and needs upon Him and promises to take care of you. (1 Peter 5:7)  Yes, He still provides all that you need to support your daily as well as your eternal life.

Since God is for you, nothing can be against you. “If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? . . . “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:31-32, 36-39)

Prayer:  Grant me faith, O Lord, to submit my entire life into Your hands even to life everlasting.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

We walk by faith and not by sight, No gracious words we hear

From Him who spoke as none e’er spoke, But we believe Him near.

We may not touch His hands and side, Nor follow where He trod;

But in His promise we rejoice And cry “My Lord and God!”

Help then, O Lord, our unbelief; And may our faith abound

To call on You when You are near And seek where You are found.

For You, O resurrected Lord, Are found in means divine:

Beneath the water and the Word, Beneath the bread and wine.

Lord, when our life of faith is done, In realms of clearer light

We may behold You as You are, With full and endless sight.
