A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON THE BOOK OF HEBREWS

HAVE NO FEAR-CHRIST HAS PERFECTED YOU

Hebrews 10:14,18 “For by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. . .And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.”

Do you believe you are perfect?  Look at yourself closely.  Look deeply into your heart.  What do you see?  When you look deeply into your heart and life, Satan wants you to see only your sins.  Indeed, you give Satan great opportunity to do so because you sin daily and often.  You are, as you confess during the worship service, “a poor miserable sinner.”  You, like St. Paul, must admit, “For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.” (Romans 7:19)

Thanks be to God; the saving work of Jesus is done!  It is complete!  He has sacrificed Himself for your forgiveness.  He died on Good Friday in payment for your sins.  In agony and pain, He shed His blood, the only blood through which you receive Yahweh’s pardon.  Everyday of your life Jesus’ sacrifice for you covers and removes your sins and presents you to your heavenly Father, holy, righteous, without sin, perfect.

Are you saved?  Are you truly saved?  Is there any doubt you are saved?  YES! Yes! And YES!  Yes, you are saved.  Christ’s work is done.  All that is needed He did through His life, death, and resurrection.  The open tomb of Easter, His resurrection from the grave of death is God’s assurance to you that He accepted Jesus’ sacrifice as complete satisfaction for your sins.

Jesus’ cross is always at the center of God’s grace toward you.  In a world that is constantly changing logo’s, there is only one that is appropriate to stand before you to assure you you are perfect in God’s sight.  It is Jesus’ cross.  It is His empty cross . . .and empty tomb. . .that assures you He is your perfect, victorious Savior through whom you by God’s gift to you of faith in Him are perfect.

Prayer:  Though my sins are as scarlet, Lord Jesus, send Your Spirit into my heart to assure me that by God’s grace through His gift of faith to me in You I am forgiven, without sin, perfect.  In Your holy name.  Amen.
